Requirements
iPhone on iOS 27 or later. Transcription needs a device that supports Apple's on-device speech recognition, and summaries need on-device foundation models. Without them, recording, playback, and export still work.
Questions
- My transcript has not appeared yet.
- There are two passes, a live one while you speak and a final one over the saved file. The second is queued, so it can lag. The audio is safe and playable meanwhile. If it failed, open the recording and choose Transcribe Again.
- The language I want is not listed.
- Diane Log offers whatever Apple's on-device recognition supports on your iPhone. Each language downloads once, then works offline. Until then the audio still records. Only the transcript waits.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes. Recording, transcription, playback, search, and export all work offline. You need a connection only to download a language, or to sync with iCloud.
- Do I need iCloud?
- No. Sync is optional and off by default. With it on, recordings sync through your own account and use your iCloud storage.
- What if the app is interrupted while recording?
- Audio is written as it is captured, with a recovery journal beside it. The recording reappears in your library the next time you open the app, and is transcribed then.
- How do I get my recordings out?
- Export one from its own screen, as the original audio or as a TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, or JSON transcript. Settings › Your Data › Export All Data gives you a folder per recording plus a single library.json. All of it reads without this app.
- Can I search inside one recording?
- Yes. Use the search field at the top of the transcript. The Search tab covers everything at once.
- Search is not finding something I know I said.
- Search reads the transcript, so a misheard word will not match what you spelled. Try a nearby word or another phrasing. If results look wrong everywhere, rebuild the index in Settings › Storage. Rebuilding never touches recordings or transcripts.
- Can I change the language afterward?
- Yes. Open the recording and choose Transcribe in Another Language. Select several in the library to do them at once.
- How do I delete everything?
- Settings › Your Data › Reset All Data removes every recording, transcript, and summary from the iPhone, and from iCloud if sync is on. It cannot be undone. Export first.
Reporting a Problem
Include your iPhone model, your iOS version, the app version from Settings › About, and what you did just before. Please do not send recordings or transcripts unless I ask.
